Robots and Robotics
“Rise of the machine”- the words may be suited with the evolution of the robots. A
robot is an electro-mechanical component that can maneuver by its own wish. But the guidance system is
pre-programmed by the computer.
A robot can be defined from various aspects. A robot can change its position
according to the command. It can sense the material, shows intelligent behavior and do some activities like a human
being. The very first digitally programmed robot was created in late 1961. At the modern era robot is being
manufactured commercially. These robots can perform various tasks like laboratory research work, massive industrial
manufacturing, expedition in space, surgery work in medical etc.
When the mechanical system can be controlled by its own self then it can be
claimed as robot. . For example a self managed car like KIIT can be claimed as a robot but clockwork cannot be
defined as a robot. A robot can also be defined by a machine if it is able to move its arm. For example Roboraptor
which is a mechanical toy. Back in 1933 a Czech writer named Karel Capek first used the word robot in his drama.
There have been a lot of researches for developing the robot’s intelligence.
By the year 2009 a robot can decide its own target to attack. They can find their
own power sources, perform semi-autonomy. In military system, robot is of great use. Many human lives can be saved
by using robots in the battle field. Recently a robot called EATR in the USA defense system earns a great
concern for this purpose. In Japan artificial intelligence is being advanced to manufacture the robot with safer
mode. They have decided to commercially export robots within 2025. Robot operating system provides the basic
programs to maneuver, navigation, commands etc. Microsoft has already launched the windows which are being used for
robots. There are some robots which are still in the experimental period like Nano robot, Swarn robot. Telerobots
are used for dirty works.
The term Robotics is related with
robot.
It is the technology of making robot. The basic structure is like a human being
and each part of the body is tightened by chain. Batteries can be used for power sources but for longer lasting
performance potential power sources is being used. The muscle of the motor is controlled by different kinds of
motors. Touch sensitive and locomotion robot are also built now a day. Walking robot and rolling robot are also
found today.
Human robots have the capacity to make interaction, speech recognition, facial
expression, emotion etc. In future robots may take education as a part of robotics. Robot and robotics is an
evolution in history of science and technology. But people should be aware of its use. Taking a wrong step may
bring disaster to the civilization.
